The Fabulous Ladies Of Ivanhoe Club

Neurobalance Center News
October 10, 2015

On Thursday September 10th, the lady golfers of Ivanhoe Club held a Golf Outing and Luncheon raising over $22,000 to benefit FitMS NeuroBalance Center.

The generous ladies of Ivanhoe Golf Club have held a charitable outing and luncheon for years benefitting Susan B. Komen. This year they decided to raise funds for the FitMS NeuroBalance Center, as they know someone close to the club who benefits from their services. Tina Sobb, wife of Invanhoe Golf Club Pro and PGA Professional Jim Sobb.

Tina was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) over a decade ago. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. It's symptoms can cause decreased mobility, making regular movement and tasks difficult for many patients.

FitMS NeuroBalance Center has created a community of wellness and resources for people living with chronic conditions that effect mobility and independence. Founded by Joy Wagner, who was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001, FitMS was developed to meet the specific needs not addressed for people with debilitating diseases. With specialized equipment and trainers on site, individuals at the center can work on increasing strength and fitness. Group classes include Zumba, Yoga and a special FitMS class that incorporates Tai Chi, Yoga, Pilates and the Balance Ball. Private And Small Group Fitness Training can include Pilates Reformer and Cadillac, Power Plate®, weights, straps, yoga and balance balls.

The center also provides complementary Healthcare services and consultations including:

  • Disease Management Consulting
  • Chiropractic Care
  • Therapeutic Massage
  • Counseling
  • Acupuncture
  • Functional Medicine
  • Food Sensitivity Testing & Counseling
  • Weight Loss Management
  • Nutritional Counseling
  • Gait and Balance Training
  • Aroma and Rain-Drop Therapy
  • Wellness Coaching

FitMS also realized that transportation was an issue with many of their participants, so they formed a partnership with Cuba Township in January of 2014 to help those in need within a 14 mile radius to access all services offered through the center. Cuba Townshipowns a lift equipped van and once people learned about their organization a Bus Team developed. Four local men volunteer to run the transportation services for the center, which includes driving on Tuesdays and Thursdays, scheduling the drivers, routing the schedule each day and communicating with all the riders.

Operating on a shoestring budget, programs and services have only been available a few days a week. The demand continues to grow as people learn about the organization. With the funds raised by the Invanhoe Golf Club women, the center will be able to work towards expanding their availability to help more people in the future.
