Administrative Team 

Joy Wagner, Founder & President

Joy Wagner, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Iowa. She has practiced nursing and taught in the health field since 1982 changing her focus to Multiple Sclerosis, Auto-Immune and other Neuromuscular conditions after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001.   Determined to regain her independence, Joy developed a rehabilitation protocol for herself. She named this program fitMS® in 2003 when she began teaching other MS patients at local fitness facilities. She released a standing and seated version of fitMS® on DVD in 2004 to make the program available to MS patients outside her community.  Joy received the National MS Society’s “Leader of Hope Award” in 2004 in recognition of fitMS and her dedication to helping MS patients improve their mobility.  Joy has taught fitMS® and spoken at patient and healthcare provider education events across the country since 2003.

Joy founded fitMS® NeuroBalance Center (not for profit – NFP 501(c)3 Public Charity) in 2010. With the goal of providing more services to address the unmet needs of the MS population and all those with Neuromuscular conditions that threaten independence. In addition to group and private fitness, yoga and Power Plate® instruction, Joy counsels patients in disease management and educates patients and healthcare providers about MS.  As President of the NeuroBalance Center, she is responsible for fundraising, community outreach and group education event speakers and topics.

Stephanie Bryan Kangas, MPH, Director of Philanthropy

Stephanie first met Joy in 2019 through a mutual friend. She was earning her master’s degree in Public Health from Benedictine University and needed an internship. After graduating, NeuroBalance offered her the position of Director of Philanthropy to develop new donors and support current ones. She is also responsible for fundraising throughout the year including writing grants for family and corporate foundations.

Scott Farrell, Director of Finance

Scott truly is a Renaissance man. He has a bachelor’s degree in Commerce, a master’s degree in Business Administration and a Juris Doctorate degree all from DePaul University. He undertakes our comprehensive financial and accounting tasks for all aspects of the business by managing the day to day planning, progress and performance. He also works closely with our Board Treasurer and auditing firm.

Molly Ross, Assistant Director of Operations

Molly earned a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Health Services with a minor in Addiction Studies from Western Michigan University. She coordinates Center operations, programs and building management on a day to day basis. Molly also assists with the Center’s social media, education events, front desk, volunteers and team members.

Taylor Marsh, Administrative Assistant

Taylor graduated from the University of Iowa in 2018 with a bachelor’s degree in Health and Human Physiology- Health Promotion & a certificate in Public Health. She is the first person you see when walking into the Center. Taylor wears many hats from working the front desk, answering phone calls, scheduling appointments and coordinating rides through our Rides Program.

Barb Nielsen, Administrative Assistant

Barb has a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Creighton University and an associate degree in Risk Management Designation. Being diagnosed with MS in 2013, Barb has focused on exercising within her mobility limitations to better her quality of life. Barb conducts client wellness checks and assists with HR matters.
