Joy Wagner RN, BSN
Joy Wagner, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Iowa. She has practiced nursing and taught in the health field since 1982 changing her focus to Multiple Sclerosis, Auto-Immune and other Neuromuscular conditions after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001. Determined to regain her independence, Joy developed a rehabilitation protocol for herself. She named this program fitMS® in 2003 when she began teaching other MS patients at local fitness facilities. She released a standing and seated version of fitMS® on DVD in 2004 to make the program available to MS patients outside her community. Joy received the National MS Society’s “Leader of Hope Award” in 2004 in recognition of fitMS and her dedication to helping MS patients improve their mobility. Joy has taught fitMS® and spoken at patient and healthcare provider education events across the country since 2003.
Joy founded fitMS® NeuroBalance Center (not for profit – NFP 501(c)3 Public Charity) in 2010 . With the goal of providing more services to address the unmet needs of the MS population and all those with Neuromuscular conditions that threaten independence. In addition to group and private fitness, yoga and Power Plate® instruction, Joy counsels patients in disease management and educates patients and healthcare providers about MS. As President of the NeuroBalance Center she is responsible for fundraising, community outreach and group education event speakers and topics.

Carol Mae Hannagan, Center Administrator
Carol Hannagan received a Bachelor of Science in Plant and Soil Science from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She spent many years in the Horticulture field before joining her husband, Patrick in the food service industry. Carol assisted in running two seafood restaurant and markets for over 15 years. In 2003 Carol was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Determined to be an advocate for herself, Carol took the advice of family and joined the new adaptive fitness class at the local YMCA, fitMS. There she met Joy Wagner and they became fast friends. In 2006, Carol took a leap and became certified to instruct the fitMS class and taught at a local YMCA for 3 years. Over 10 years later, circa 2018, Carol has taken her past experience with fitMS and in business to join the NeuroBalance Center as the Center Administrator. Carol oversees all center operations, programs, building management and team members. Her focus is on growing the confidence and wellness of clients as well as strengthening the future of the center as it grows. “”Working together to live better’ is not just our company motto, it is my way of thinking, professionally and personally.
