Shawna C. Egan, President
Shawna has over 30 years of non-profit leadership experience that includes executive leadership in various non-profit organizations, establishing successful fund development strategies, creating innovative programs, as well as cultivating community and government relationships. She has worked in the healthcare field, with those with developmental disabilities, and within higher education. Her hobbies include gardening, cooking, antiques, music, nature and living life to the fullest.
Shawna has two beautiful daughters, Jillian and Abby. Abby (28) is a funny, sweet young woman who loves horses, swimming and enjoys being around family and friends. Abby also has a progressive, chronic, and degenerative condition which has caused cognitive and physical disabilities. Jillian (27) is a vibrant and creative young woman who works for a therapeutic day school for children with severe autism. Jillian loves dogs, travel, nature and making the world a better place.
Joy Wagner, Founder
Joy Wagner, received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Iowa. She has practiced nursing and taught in the health field since 1982 changing her focus to Multiple Sclerosis, Auto-Immune and other Neuromuscular conditions after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2001. Determined to regain her independence, Joy developed a rehabilitation protocol for herself. She named this program fitMS® in 2003 when she began teaching other MS patients at local fitness facilities. She released a standing and seated version of fitMS® on DVD in 2004 to make the program available to MS patients outside her community. Joy received the National MS Society’s “Leader of Hope Award” in 2004 in recognition of fitMS and her dedication to helping MS patients improve their mobility. Joy has taught fitMS® and spoken at patient and healthcare provider education events across the country since 2003.
Stephanie Bryan Kangas, MPH, Director of Philanthropy
Stephanie first met Joy in 2019 through a mutual friend. She was earning her master’s degree in Public Health from Benedictine University and needed an internship. After graduating, NeuroBalance offered her the position of Director of Philanthropy to develop new donors and support current ones. She is also responsible for fundraising throughout the year including writing grants for family and corporate foundations.
Jenny Wells, Administrative & Operations Coordinator
Jenny is the Administrative & Operations Coordinator at the NeuroBalance Center. She assists with scheduling, coordinates volunteers, manages our POS MindBody system, creates our Client newsletter, and assists with planning onsite events at the Center. She is also involved in facility management, oversees provider & employee needs, manages reception, and orients & trains new employees.
In her spare time, Jenny enjoys spending time with her family, spinning, practicing yoga, cooking, and being outdoors. She is also very passionate about the small non-profit she leads that supports her local police department. She holds an Associate of Applied Sciences Degree in Dietetics, as well as two technical degrees in Nutrition, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science.
